Learning to describe the different parts of the body in Spanish is an exciting part of Spanish classes. That is why I want to share some parts of the human body in Spanish and a few activities for you to memorize them better. The vocabulary you will find here is suitable for beginners and upper beginners.
When describing the human body in Spanish, there are two main differences compared to English. Firstly, in Spanish, you must include a definite article every time you describe a body part. Therefore, in Spanish, all body parts will be preceded by “el” or “la” (or “los” or “las” if they refer to the plural case).
It is essential because when we talk about the pain in a part of the body, we don’t use the possessive as in English, so saying: I have a headache or my head is paining, would be incorrect to tell “me duele mi cabeza”. The correct way to say it is “me duele la cabeza”.
If you are currently learning the parts of the body in Spanish, an easy way to understand this vocabulary is to write it down with pencil and paper (not on the computer) and, employing diagrams (or drawings) as you like best, outline it. You will see that the words will remain in your memory.
